The Journal of English Language Teaching (JELT) (ISSN 0973-5208) [A publication of the English Language Teachers' Association of India-ELTAI] Golden Jubilee Issue 2015

The JELT, the flagship print journal of ELTAI, is an international, peer-reviewed journal and it is proposed to bring out its Golden Jubilee Issue early next year. The overall aim of the journal is to promote the professional development of its readers, namely English teachers teaching at all levels, researchers and teacher trainers around the world. As a special issue commemorating fifty years of its existence since it was launched, it will include a variety of features.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Submissions from English language teachers and researchers worldwide for this special issue of the journal are welcome. Theoretical as well as practical articles and research reports on ESL/EFL can be sent for consideration. Theoretical articles should present new perspectives or points of view on second or foreign language teaching and learning reflecting current theories and approaches. Submissions on a wide variety of topics in ESL/EFL education are invited, such as the following:

1.Second and foreign language learning and acquisition.

2.ESL/EFL curriculum design (including English for Specific Purposes), implementation and monitoring, including programme evaluation.

3.Principles and methods of ESL/EFL teaching.

4.Classroom practices – techniques, activities and tasks – for improving learners' proficiency in ESL/EFL.

5.Assessment of student learning/performance in ESL/EFL programmes.

6.Classroom-based small scale studies and action research.

8.ESL/EFL learning outcome standards for different levels of education.

9. Any other related topic.

The target readership comprises a general audience of English language teachers at primary, secondary and tertiary levels, teacher educators and language education researchers, so the submissions should be written in simple, concise, clear and easy-to-read style; specialized terms as well as statistical techniques and tools should be explained clearly and in simple language.

The journal invites the following kinds of submissions:

1.Full-length articles (not exceeding 3,000 words including references but excluding appendix).

2.Short theoretical articles (not exceeding 2,000 words including references) on ESL/EFL education.

3.Short, work-in-progress research reports (not exceeding 1,000 words including references).

4.Short reviews of ESL/EFL materials (i.e., books, software and web resources) (not exceeding 400 words, with full publishing details of the material reviewed).

5.Reports and events of ELTAI Chapters (not exceeding 500 words from each chapter) [A separate note on the format will be sent to the chapters.] .

6.Short descriptions of innovative activities and tasks that have worked (not exceeding 500 words).

The deadline for submissions is 30th November 2014.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Authors should follow these guidelines while preparing their submissions:

1. All submissions should only be sent as email attachments (not as part of the email) to the editor, Dr. P. N. Ramani, at ramanipn@gmail.com with cc to reltai_india@yahoo.co.in The email should also indicate the type of submission. For example, the subject line should read as: JELT Golden Jubilee Issue – Work-in-progress research report or JELT Golden Jubilee Issue – Chapter Report.

2.The filename of the submission (in MS Word format) sent as an email attachment should contain key words from the title and the author(s)' names.

3.The submission should not have been published previously in any form (print or online).

4.All pages should be double-spaced with a clear margin of 1 inch on all sides.

5.The title should be clear, brief and focused, not broad or vague. It should also indicate the type of submission.

6.The article should carry only the title, abstract and the main paper.

7.The title, author(s)' name(s) [the last name first], affiliation [i.e., the name of institution(s) the author(s) belong(s) to; city, country] and email address should be provided on a separate cover sheet for the submission.

8.The submission should be accompanied by the author(s)' photo(s) [passport size, colour, in .jpg format].

9.Only sources cited in the article should be listed as references at the end of the article.

10.The article should use the author-date format for citations and references (e.g., Anderson 1997; Anderson 1997, p.17). See the Chicago Manual of Style (15th edn.) for more details and examples.

11. A list of all the references cited in the text should be given at the end of the article.

  • In each reference, only the author's last name and initials are to be provided.
  • The year is placed after the author's name.
  • Only the first word of the title and the sub-title (after a colon) are capitalized along with proper nouns.
  • Titles of books and journal should be in italics.
  • Quotation marks are not to be used in the title.
  • For electronic sources such as websites, the date of accessing the source should be given in brackets after the URL.

NOTE: The deadline for submissions is 30th November 2014.

JOURNAL

1. The Journal of English Language Teaching (JELT),-ISSN 0973-5208, the oldest ELT Journal in our country and peer-reviewed, is the official organ of our Association and is registered under the Press and Registration Act 1885—RN.84685 It is a bimonthly published without any break since 1967. It provides a forum for ELT professionals and teachers at all level to share their views and experiences on matters relating to the teaching of English in our country besides encouraging researchers to disseminate their findings among among those interested in ELT.

Three open access E Journals are also published, namely,
